FYEG

The Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) was founded in 1988 in Belgium, with the purpose of bringing together young environmental and Green political groups from all over Europe to encourage both mutual understanding and mutual action to promote a greener Europe.  FYEG has now 40 member organizations, from both Eastern and Western Europe, that are  either the independent youth wings of national green parties or environmental non-governmental youth organizations (youth NGOs). The federation’s goals are to, on a European level, strive for environmental and social justice, promote political ecology and be the European Young Green movement’s motor. In total FYEG represents between 17000 and 22000 young greens.

FYEG in Copenhagen

OBJECTIVES & POLITICAL FOCUS

The Federation of Young European Greens will participate with 30 delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. It will be a great opportunity for our “young green delegates” to be involved in such an important event and confront themselves with the most challenging issue of all time: climate change.

We will express our voice through the YOUNGO Constituency Group and put some pressure on politicians and states’ representatives to reach a fair and comprehensive agreement addressing global warming.
We will be active inside and outside the conference and the FYEG delegates will be asked to give their utmost during those crucial days.
We will provide a day to day report on the negotiation process in order to keep informed youngsters in Europe on the main issues raised during the COP.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN INSIDE?

The FYEG delegates will participate to the actual negotiations inside the Bella Center and they will be lobbying on specific topics that we consider particularly important, such as strong emission reductions by “developed countries” and great financial and technological support for “developing countries”. Furthermore we will strive for an agreement capable of leading the international community toward a more sustainable path.

The Delegation Team is composed of 36 Young Greens from Germany, Luxembourg, Greece, France, Sweden, England, Wales, Catalonia, Scotland, Turkey, Romania, The Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Latvia, Azerbaijan and Italy. To make sure that our delegates are fully aware and prepared for their crucial role, we already organized a training session and conferences in our headquarters here in Brussels. With their motivation and knowledge they now have the necessary capacities to make a difference in Copenhagen.

FYEG is part of the new Constituency Group called “YOUNGO” gathering all Youth Organisations registered as official representative NGO.
Organise an exhibit booth inside the COP together with the Heinrich Boell Foundation, to shed more light on the Green movement, the culture and principles of “Greens”.

Being part of the “Youth Arcade”, young coalition gathering all young organizations and movements involved in the negotiation process, to present the diverse yet unified group of organizations working for, with and by youth on climate change.
Organise a side event the 10th of December on “Inter-generational Equity”, in the frame of the Youth and Future Generation Day, together with the European Youth Forum and Belgium Walloon Youth Council.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN OUTSIDE?

The FYEG will also be present outside the Conference by participating to several activities and actions with young environmental groups, NGOs and other activists.

Participate in the KlimaForum, alternative summit for the civil society, happening on the side of the official conference. This forum will propose various activities such as concert, conference, briefing, actions, workshops and so on. Among all our activities, we will organise morning briefing on the state of the negotiations, workshops and screening of the Age of Stupid.
For the well-coordination of all actions, involvement in the Climate Justice Action network in order to effectively organise happenings, peaceful and civil disobedience actions and demonstrations during the whole conference period.
As part of the entire civil society movement, FYEG will provide every Young Greens and others with all necessary information to find a way in this huge mass of people and activities, any possible help and support to all who will come to Copenhagen individually by providing them a platform where they can meet and cooperate each others.
